Charles Spencer Announces “Swan Song” Book on Sister Princess Diana

Charles Spencer is set to release a book about his globally famous and beloved sister, Princess Diana. The upcoming release, titled Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, will tell the story of the royal’s life from the best-selling author and historian’s perspective as her only brother, as the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death in a car crash in Paris approaches.

The book will mark the first time that the 9th Earl Spencer, 62, will speak “openly” and “at length” about his sister. Spencer described his sister, who died in August 1997, as “a one-off, dynamic character” who was “full of love” in a press release for the much-anticipated book.

“The aim of this book is to tell the truth about Diana from her brother’s perspective, just as I attempted to do when speaking at her funeral,” Spencer said. “As with my eulogy, I want to speak on Diana’s behalf and do so in an openly positive way.”

Spencer said he decided to write the book after being “inundated” with requests for interviews about Diana as the anniversary of her tragic death approaches. He also expressed his desire to counter misinformation that has spread over the years. “This has convinced me to write down my own thoughts and memories, once and for all, rather than having the discomfort of again reading the opinions of others, many of which are based on untruths that have become accepted over time,” he said.

The Earl hopes the memoir will help longtime admirers and younger readers understand Diana as a unique, charismatic, and loving woman. “I would be delighted if those too young to remember her in her heyday feel, after reading this, that they ‘get’ who she really was: a one-off, dynamic character, full of love, charisma and self-doubt, who gave life a hell of a go, and left the world a far better place, despite exiting the stage while still so young,” he added.
