Sir Billy Connolly, the 82-year-old Scottish comedian, warns that scammers are using artificial intelligence including deepfake voice and image technology to impersonate him online and target his fans.
Fraudulent accounts are contacting followers via social media, urging them to move to private messaging apps and then demanding money for fake merchandise or meetings.
Connolly clarifies that his official Facebook page is his only social media presence, and emphasizes that he never contacts fans directly, sells items, or requests meetings or funds.
He also notes that his wife, Pamela Stephenson, and children are being impersonated, and reminds fans that his likeness and voice can be fabricated using AI
