One of pop culture’s most iconic vehicles is officially up for grabs — and yes, it belongs to Britney Spears.
The 2006 black Mercedes-Benz CLK350 that Britney famously drove during the peak of her 2007 public breakdown is being auctioned off after spending nearly 15 years on display at the Volo Auto Museum in Illinois.
From Paparazzi Magnet to Museum Piece
If you remember the tabloid frenzy of the late 2000s, this car is etched into pop history. Britney was regularly seen behind the wheel of the convertible as she attempted to evade paparazzi, even running red lights to shake them off. It also made headlines when she was involved in a minor hit-and-run in a Los Angeles parking lot — though charges were dropped after a settlement.
But its most notorious moment came in February 2007, when Britney, recently having shaved her head, emerged from the Mercedes with an umbrella and attacked a paparazzo’s car. The image became one of the defining (and most misrepresented) snapshots of her struggles.
Now, that very car is going under the hammer as part of Volo Auto Museum’s auction event from August 1 to August 7, TMZ reports.
“The Most Documented Celebrity-Owned Car of All Time”
According to the museum, the vehicle is possibly the most documented celebrity car in history due to the intense media coverage surrounding Britney at the time.
It’s a powerful symbol of both her fame and the invasion of privacy she endured — a reminder of how the media frenzy spiraled out of control.
Britney’s Complicated Relationship With Cars
Ironically, Britney hasn’t had the best luck with vehicles since then. Just earlier this month, the pop icon posted on Instagram:
“Got a new car but I hate it. The roof doesn’t come off, WTF !!! The pedals are not like my old car at all. I almost ran into my house, oh well !!!”
In another moment, she shared that she had no clue what car she was even driving — referring to it as a “cheap Corolla or something”, only for fans to spot the Nissan logo on the steering wheel.
Still, Britney was more excited about the destination than the ride:
“I’m excited because I’m going to go ride horses. Yes, oh God!”
