It was a night of unity and beauty at Disney California Adventure Park, as the largest gathering of Disney Princess talent ever assembled took the stage for Disney Princess: The Ultimate Concert Celebration. Held during D23 Day at Disneyland Resort, the concert brought together iconic performers from across generations, including Anika Noni Rose, Brandy, and Halle Bailey.
For Black audiences in particular, seeing the three women on the same bill was a rare and powerful moment. Brandy made history in 1997 as the first Black actress to portray Cinderella on television. Anika Noni Rose originated the voice of Tiana, Disney’s first Black animated princess, in 2009’s The Princess and the Frog. And Halle Bailey represents the newest chapter, starring as Ariel in the 2023 live-action The Little Mermaid.
The concert featured a stunning lineup of performances. Brandy opened the evening with “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes” and later joined Lea Salonga for “A Whole New World”. Rose performed “Almost There” from The Princess and the Frog. Bailey sang “Part of Your World” alongside Jodi Benson, who voiced Ariel in the original 1989 animated film. The evening culminated in an ensemble performance of “When You Wish Upon a Star,” bringing all the princesses together for a magical finale.
Fans can relive the magic when the filmed concert airs on Sunday, August 16, streaming on Disney+ and broadcasting on ABC, Disney Channel, and Freeform.
