Nigeria’s arts and culture scene is about to get a major spotlight as Terra Kulture’s powerhouse founder and filmmaker Bolanle Austen-Peters launches the very first Lagos International Theatre Festival! Mark your calendars because from November 14 to 17, 2024, Lagos will be pulsing with the sounds of world-class theater, innovative performances, and creative expression.

In a vibrant press conference on November 5, 2024, at the Governor’s House in Marina, Lagos, Austen-Peters shared her vision for the festival. She confessed, “At first, I wasn’t sure I wanted to take on something like this,” but her commitment to the arts and the growing creative energy around Terra Kulture changed her mind. With over 22 years in the business, providing thousands of opportunities and training over 24,000 young creatives, Austen-Peters is set on transforming Lagos into a global hub for the arts.
The festival is bringing together 25 stage productions, including three big international hits, to four landmark venues across the city: Terra Kulture, MUSON Centre’s Agip Hall, University of Lagos, and the historic Glover Hall. For four days, theater lovers will be treated to a celebration of talent from Nigeria and beyond, highlighting Lagos as a must-visit spot for culture enthusiasts.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also gave his stamp of approval, pledging support for this exciting initiative. “We hope this festival will not only encourage our local theater talents but also become a unique attraction for visitors from around the world,” he said. With his backing, Lagos State is looking to cement its status as a vibrant arts capital in West Africa.
