Beyoncé Drops Surprise Single ‘Morning Dew (Donk)’ for Fourth of July

Beyoncé kicked off the Fourth of July weekend with fireworks of her own, surprise-releasing “Morning Dew (Donk)”—her first new music in two years. The track dropped on July 4 as a gift to the BeyHive, marking the beginning of a 60-day countdown to the 20th anniversary reissue of her classic sophomore album, B’Day.

Written by Beyoncé alongside Pharrell Williams, The-Dream, and Darius Dixon, the song was produced by Beyoncé and Williams. The release arrives with a lyric video directed by frequent collaborator Cliff Watts, featuring repurposed throwback footage of the superstar.

According to a press release from Parkwood Entertainment, the track is “a direct nod to her loyal BeyHive to commemorate the upcoming epic celebration of B’Day”. Fans instantly recognized the song as a reworked version of “Donk,” an unreleased track that surfaced online in 2013 and was originally intended for her self-titled 2013 album. The release feels like a long-awaited gift for those who have championed her career over the years.

“Morning Dew (Donk)” finds Beyoncé reflecting on a relationship where the spark remains undimmed. “It’s something ’bout that look you give me / Makin’ me feel that young love inside,” she sings.
