Ashley Roberts is still clinging to hope for a Pussycat Dolls reunion, years after their planned comeback was derailed by the COVID-19 pandemic and a messy legal battle.
Speaking on the We Need To Talk podcast, the 42-year-old singer and dancer admitted the group’s scrapped 2020 reunion tour was a huge disappointment.
“We were ready to go, and Ms. Rona [Coronavirus] shut it down,” she said. “There’s legal stuff that was involved, so I can’t actually speak about that… but it’d be a shame not to [reunite].”
The Pussycat Dolls — made up of Nicole Scherzinger, Kimberly Wyatt, Carmit Bachar, Jessica Sutta, Melody Thornton, and Roberts — announced their return in late 2019, nearly a decade after parting ways. But when the pandemic hit, it put everything on pause. Behind the scenes, tensions and legal complications made things even messier.
In 2021, group founder Robin Antin sued Scherzinger for allegedly pulling out of the comeback unless she was given full creative control and 75% of the profits. Nicole denied the claims and countered with her own lawsuit, accusing Antin of financial mismanagement. A settlement was finally reached in principle by late 2024, but the reunion plans never made it off the ground.
Despite the drama, Roberts remains hopeful and even reflects on the original group dynamics with grace.
“There was a structure to the group that we knew about. The structure was that Nicole was the lead singer… it was what it was,” she explained. “Do I wish it was a bit more expansive? Yes. But I was getting to live out my dreams. I don’t want to sit here and bash and speak negatively about it.”
With a final court hearing on the case scheduled for July 28, 2025, fans may be wondering if the door is still open for one last Dolls dance. For Ashley, the answer is clear: never say never.
