The 18th Headies Awards has unveiled the nominees for its highly coveted Best Male Artiste category, recognizing the outstanding contributions of male artists to the Nigerian music industry over the past year. The shortlist features a powerhouse lineup of Afrobeats stars: Adekunle Gold, Asake, Fola, Mavo, Rema, Wizkid, and Burna Boy.
This year’s nominees represent the current elite of the industry, each boasting impressive achievements. Asake’s commercial dominance is undeniable, with his album M$NEY breaking the Spotify Nigeria record for the biggest streaming week and becoming the most-streamed Nigerian project of 2026 on both Spotify and Audiomack. His run of 100 consecutive days with over one million daily streams on Spotify Nigeria further cements his status as a streaming powerhouse.
Burna Boy continues to elevate Afrobeats on the global stage. He is the featured artist on “Dai Dai,” the official song for the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Shakira, a testament to his international prestige. Wizkid also made history this year, becoming the first African artist to surpass 500 million streams on Pandora, reinforcing his dominance in the U.S. market.
While Rema and Adekunle Gold are also strong contenders, the year’s standout achievements arguably position Asake, Burna Boy, and Wizkid as the frontrunners. The Headies Awards ceremony is one of Nigeria’s most prestigious music events, celebrating excellence across multiple categories.
