Strictly Come Dancing star Anton Du Beke has shared an emotional account of his wife Hannah Summers’ painful struggle with endometriosis and their journey through IVF, describing the experience as heartbreaking and deeply humbling.
Appearing on the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast, the 59-year-old dancer got candid about how helpless he felt watching Hannah endure years of physical and emotional challenges just to become a mother.
“I knew I wanted to be with her,” Anton said, recalling how moved he was watching Hannah care for her nephews. “She’s so kind and so caring… I just couldn’t understand the universe.”
He didn’t hold back when describing how cruel it felt that someone so maternal and deserving had to suffer through a condition that often robs women of fertility.
“Endometriosis… she suffered with this all her life, chronically. And I just thought it was cruel, inexplicable, and unforgivable.”
Anton and Hannah, who have been married since 2017, eventually turned to IVF in the hope of starting a family. But for Anton, the process was also filled with a sense of powerlessness.
“It makes me emotional every time I talk about it. The injections, the stress, the bruises… and you’re trying to help, but what can you do? It’s horrendous as a man to watch it.”
Despite the pain and anxiety, the couple was blessed with twins after their first round of IVF. Anton, forever in awe of Hannah and women who undergo similar journeys, added:
“You feel so inadequate. You want to do so much more, but you can’t. That’s why you girls are so extraordinary. You’re extraordinary that you do all this stuff.”
The moving interview offered not only a rare glimpse into the couple’s private battles but also a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience, and grace of women navigating fertility struggles behind closed doors.
