The 2025 Grammy Awards season has officially launched with today’s nomination ceremony, and it’s already making waves with a host of updates aimed at modernizing the awards. The Recording Academy has unveiled significant changes to its category structure, all designed to make the GRAMMYs more inclusive and reflective of today’s diverse music landscape.

One of the major changes this year is the debut of the Best Dance Pop Recording category, replacing the previous Best Pop Dance Recording. This shift highlights the Academy’s recognition of Dance Pop as a genre deserving of its own spotlight. Meanwhile, Best Remixed Recording now finds its home within the Pop & Dance/Electronic field, bringing added cohesion to these evolving genres.

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. described these changes as part of a broader mission to “empower creators” and evolve with the industry. “The GRAMMYs have been a pillar of the music industry for 67 years, and each vote truly shapes the future of music,” Mason said, underscoring the Grammy’s legacy and its dedication to representing all artists and genres.

In addition to these category revamps, the Songwriter of the Year eligibility criteria have also been updated, allowing songwriters to qualify with fewer entries. This adjustment aims to broaden the field, giving more emerging voices the chance to compete.

The 67th GRAMMY Awards ceremony is set for February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, promising a grand celebration of musical talent. With these new changes, the Academy is not only adapting to the present but setting the stage for a more inclusive future in music.
