Prince Harry is happy to be home. The Duke of Sussex stepped out Thursday for his first public event since returning to the U.K., attending the inaugural Invictus Spirit Gala Dinner and Awards in London. Harry smiled as he welcomed friends and Invictus supporters to the event, and when asked how things were going, he told reporters: “Good. It’s good to be back on British soil”.

The Prince Harry Invictus Gala marked a significant moment for the Duke, who relocated to the U.K. with Meghan Markle and their two children in August after six years in Montecito, California. The gala was held in support of the Invictus Games, the adaptive sports competition Harry founded in 2014 for wounded, injured, and sick military personnel and veterans. The evening celebrated the Invictus community ahead of the 2027 Games in Birmingham, with Harry personally greeting attendees and posing for photos.

Harry’s return to public life in Britain comes amid ongoing speculation about a royal reconciliation. King Charles met privately with Harry, Meghan, and their children at Highgrove House in July, the first reported meeting between Charles and his grandchildren in over four years. However, Buckingham Palace has made clear there has been no change in Harry and Meghan’s royal status; they remain private citizens and are not returning as working members of the royal family. Harry and Meghan’s move is expected to be temporary, as they have kept their Montecito home.
