Nearly one month after KATSEYE member Sophia announced she would be going on hiatus, the group has confirmed that her break will continue as they commence the European leg of their Wildworld Tour.
HYBE x Geffen Records announced on August 30 that the 23-year-old singer will not participate in the tour dates scheduled from September 1 through 17 across Europe and the UK.
“Sophia is focusing on her well-being, and the company remains fully committed to providing her with all the support and resources needed,” the label’s statement read. “We sincerely ask for EYEKONS’ warm understanding, as our highest priority will always be the health and long-term well-being of our artists”.
Following the announcement, Sophia shared an emotional message on her Instagram Story, apologizing to fans and explaining her decision:
“I can’t express enough how much I want to participate in this tour and perform for you all. I have to remind myself every day that our health and mental well-being should always be prioritized. When I show up for you, I want you to get the best version of me. I’ve been in ongoing treatment and doing everything I can to stay healthy, occupied and happy. You can’t pour from an empty cup”.
She also expressed gratitude for her support system, adding, “I can’t wait until I return and share the stage with my sisters again. They’re gonna put on an extraordinary performance for you. Trust me, I’ve been watching and they’re absolutely giving!”.
Sophia’s temporary hiatus was first announced on August 7, with medical professionals advising her to take “dedicated time for extended rest and ongoing care to ensure a full recovery”. Her mother, theater actress Carla Guevara-Laforteza, later shared that Sophia has been spending time baking and painting to focus on her mental well-being.
The group, which debuted as six members in 2023, is currently performing as a four-member act, as member Manon has also been on hiatus since February. Despite these challenges, KATSEYE recently achieved their first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with Wild.
Remaining members Daniela, Lara, Megan, and Yoonchae will continue the European leg without Sophia. The group is expected to return to North America for an extensive leg beginning October 13 in Miami.
