Miguel Speaks Out on Racist Attacks Targeting Partner Margaret Zhang and Child

Miguel is speaking out after he says his family has faced a year of “racism, harassment, stalking, invasions of privacy, and false allegations.” In a lengthy Instagram statement, the singer specifically called out recent racist and anti-Asian attacks directed at his partner, Margaret Zhang, as well as abusive comments about their child.

“There is a difference between public commentary and abuse,” Miguel wrote. “People can have opinions about me, about the music, about the work. I accept the realities that come with doing anything in public. But racism, threats, harassment, stalking, invasions of privacy, and targeting of children are abuse. Not opinion.”

The Adorn singer did not go into specific detail about the incidents but made it clear that the behavior has crossed a line. He offered a warning, saying that “where legal and ethical lines have been crossed, action has been and will continue to be taken.”

Miguel and Zhang, the former editor-in-chief of Vogue China, have largely kept their family life private. The couple welcomed their first child, a son, in 2024. The recent harassment comes as they prepare to welcome their second child.

Zhang, an Australian-Chinese filmmaker, has spoken publicly about experiencing racism in the past, including an incident in 2015 in Sydney where she was called an “Asian dog” and had beer spat in her face. Miguel’s statement serves as a firm boundary, drawing a clear line between acceptable criticism and targeted abuse.
