Tyler Duckworth, the two-time winner of MTV’s The Challenge who first rose to fame on The Real World: Key West, has died at the age of 44. His mother, Joni Duckworth, confirmed his passing on Facebook on August 13, 2026, saying, “My son, Tyler, passed away earlier this week. Cause of death has yet to be determined”.
Duckworth’s reality TV journey began in 2006 on The Real World: Key West. He went on to compete on six seasons of The Challenge, securing back-to-back championship wins on Cutthroat in 2010 and Rivals in 2011. He was a formidable competitor, remembered for sending Johnny Bananas home in the iconic “Backpack” elimination on Cutthroat.
Duckworth was found deceased in his bathroom in North Dakota on Tuesday, August 11. Police responded after a neighbor reported water leaking from his apartment. Authorities have stated there are no apparent signs of foul play and are awaiting autopsy and toxicology results.
Just two weeks before his passing, Duckworth attended a Challenge Mania event in Minneapolis, his last public appearance. “So proud to represent my hometown of Minneapolis along with these other challenge legends,” he wrote in a final Instagram post.
Fellow castmates have shared tributes. Tina Barta reflected on the loss of a “true friend and confidant,” while Wes Bergmann called it a “really tough loss” and urged people to “call your friends”.
