The Damned have been forced to cancel three North American tour dates this weekend after what they described as a “catastrophic event” occurred at a band member’s home.
The punk pioneers, made up of Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Paul Gray, Monty Oxymoron, and Rat Scabies, were scheduled to perform in Seattle on July 26, Portland’s Project Pabst on July 27, and Vancouver on July 28. However, the band announced on Instagram that the shows will no longer go ahead due to an unexpected emergency.
“We are very sorry to have to cancel our Seattle, Portland and Vancouver shows this weekend, due to an unexpected and catastrophic event at a member of The Damned’s home,” the band said in a statement.
“We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.”
They didn’t specify which member was affected or what exactly happened. Refunds for the canceled headline shows will be available at the original point of purchase, but there’s no word yet on whether the dates will be rescheduled.
This sudden setback comes just months after a major loss for the band. In March 2025, Brian James, the group’s founding guitarist and punk trailblazer, passed away at the age of 70. James, who was behind the iconic 1976 punk single New Rose, is remembered as one of the genre’s earliest and most influential figures.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of one of the true pioneers of music,” a tribute posted to his Facebook page read at the time.
Brian had recently reunited with the original lineup for a series of 2022 UK shows, celebrating over 40 years of punk history.
While fans are disappointed by the cancellations, many have taken to social media to express their support and concern for the band during this difficult moment.
