Emerging Nigerian music artist Diathy recently sat down for an insightful interview with #ent360news, sharing his musical journey, inspirations, and aspirations. The artist, known for his “joyful, happy, and fun” sound, revealed that his passion for music started at a very young age.
“I realized I needed to pursue a career when I heard so many people talking about how I sing, how I make noise in the compound at a very, very decent age,” Diathy recounted. He officially decided to pursue music as a career at the age of 20.
Diathy describes his voice as “a little breezy,” and a unique aspect of his artistry is his preference for Pidgin English in his lyrics. “I like these opportunities… if it’s not there, when I’m used to joining the English communicate, we will use the way,” he explained, emphasizing his comfort and connection with the language.
When it comes to inspiration, Diathy finds melodies and ideas in unexpected places. “I draw inspiration and melodies from sounds of things, from any sound, from other music and from other sound around my environment,” he noted.
His latest single, “Sissy,” available on Audio Mark, tells a relatable story. ” ‘Sissy’ is about a hustler, you know, working for money, you know, so I’ve been on the doing all he wants to get famous and the bug big bag,” Diathy shared, highlighting the universal theme of striving for success.
Diathy also spoke about his track “Downtown,” which is a more personal reflection. “It’s about myself, about how I came along, you know, the journey, how I’ve been evolving in music, how I’ve been underrated,” he revealed, adding that the song is about overcoming challenges and carrying himself to become who he wants to be.
The artist’s ultimate goal extends beyond personal fame. While he wishes to be famous and successful, giving back to society is paramount to him. He advises aspiring artists to “be consistent with what we do and do what is good and don’t serve anything that will compromise your image.”
