The Boys star Jensen Ackles is finally breaking his silence on the fan-fueled campaign to see him don the cape and cowl as Batman in James Gunn’s DC Universe — and he’s not brushing it off.
In a new interview with Collider (June 2025), the actor reflected on the growing buzz around his name and what stepping into the legendary role would really mean.
“It Would Be Hard to Carve Out Something Unique”
Ackles, no stranger to the Bat, has voiced Bruce Wayne/Batman in several animated DC films including The Long Halloween and Justice League: Warworld. But live-action is another beast entirely.
“It would be hard to carve out something truly unique amongst all of the performances as Batman,” Ackles admitted. “There’ve been so many incredible portrayals. You don’t want to just blend in — or worse, fall short.”
Still, he’s not completely ruling it out.
“Just Say the Word”
Ackles shared that if the opportunity ever came his way, he’d lean deeply on the creative direction of James Gunn and whoever helms the project.
“I would probably have to lean heavily on Gunn and whoever’s directing and writing, and get inspiration from the text,” he said. “You talk about not wanting to fumble the football — that’s one that I would be nervous as hell to carry. But also proud. A certain feather in the cap.”
Although no official talks have been confirmed between Ackles and DC Studios, he left fans with a hopeful note when told they were rooting for him.
“I’ll cross ’em, too,” he said. “Just say the word.”

Jensen Ackles has long been a fan-favorite in the superhero space, thanks to his gritty performance as Soldier Boy in The Boys and years of commanding presence as Dean Winchester in Supernatural. Now starring in the new Prime Video thriller Countdown, he continues to show the intensity and emotional depth that fans believe would make for a compelling Batman.
While James Gunn has yet to reveal his official choice for the new DCU’s Caped Crusader, it’s clear that Ackles remains firmly on fans’ radar — and on the edge of the Bat-Signal spotlight.
