As America’s Got Talent gears up for its milestone 20th anniversary season, fans are in for a nostalgic surprise: Mel B is officially returning as a judge, replacing longtime panelist Heidi Klum for the new season premiering May 27.
Mel B, also known to millions as Scary Spice from the iconic Spice Girls, isn’t a stranger to the AGT family. She previously held a seat at the judges’ table from Season 8 through 13, making her return feel more like a homecoming than a comeback.

Speaking candidly during a recent appearance on The Today Show, Mel B revealed that her previous departure wasn’t exactly voluntary.
“I got kind of laid off and fired,” she laughed, sitting beside Howie Mandel and Terry Crews.
But she’s taking it all in stride. “It was perfect timing to come back,” she said, adding that her decision was also influenced by her close bond with the current AGT family. “I love working with you guys,” she told Crews and Mandel — both of whom echoed the love right back.
Heidi Klum Steps Away — With Grace and Gratitude
While Mel B is reclaiming her seat, Heidi Klum’s absence hasn’t gone unnoticed. The supermodel and TV personality has been a beloved presence on AGT, known for her infectious energy and style. In a heartfelt message, the production team praised Heidi’s contributions:
“We are enormously grateful for her many contributions and the impact she has had while celebrating the world’s greatest talent with us. We’d love for our paths to cross again.”

In a statement to People, Mel B made it clear that her return will be anything but quiet:

Joining Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, and Sofia Vergara, Mel B is expected to bring back the fiery edge and bold personality that made her such a fan favorite during her previous tenure.
