Veteran Nigerian entertainer D’banj has set tongues wagging across social media after naming his current top three music artistes—and leaving out Wizkid, one of the most decorated and influential stars in the Afrobeats scene.
Speaking candidly during his appearance on the Adesope Live podcast, the Koko Master gave flowers to Rema, Davido, and Burna Boy, lauding their energy, drive, and live performances.
“Shout out to Rema. I like his energy… Then there is Davido. People should learn from the way he carries himself, like he doesn’t have a penny, yet he’s so consistent. Burna Boy is too intentional, his live shows are amazing,” D’banj said.
While his selections earned praise from some fans, many couldn’t help but notice the glaring omission of Wizkid—a Grammy-winning artist with massive global influence. The exclusion sparked a flurry of online reactions, with fans accusing D’banj and podcast host Adesope Olajideof subtly snubbing the Starboy.
