NEW YORK CITY – Hugh Jackman had fans in stitches Friday night at Radio City Music Hall when he hilariously roasted his longtime frenemy, Ryan Reynolds, during his one-man show, From New York, With Love.
While reflecting on filming Deadpool & Wolverine, Jackman, 56, called the experience “fantastic” but had one cheeky complaint—he was left out of the film’s only dance number, which just so happened to feature Reynolds shaking it to NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye.”
“Don’t tell Ryan,” Jackman quipped with a grin, before spilling the tea.
The actor explained that while he and Reynolds, 48, appear in nearly every scene together, the one exception was the musical opening… and it just so happened to involve dancing. And who wrote the script? Yep, Ryan Reynolds.
“I’m like—the one scene I’m not in… has dance? Now, Ryan’s talented, but dancing?” Jackman teased, sparking a wave of laughter from the audience.
Jackman couldn’t resist poking fun at his co-star’s footwork—or lack thereof. He reminded the crowd that Ryan didn’t even do his own dancing, and instead used a much younger dance double, Nick Pauley.
But the Greatest Showman wasn’t about to let that moment pass him by. To “rectify” the oversight, Jackman brought out his trainer and former dancer, Beth Lewis, and launched into a show-stopping performance of Bye Bye Bye—complete with intense choreography and jump rope tricks.
“There is no way I would try and match Ryan’s dance double,” he joked. “The guy’s like 25 years old!”
Despite the jabs, the performance was all in good fun and in perfect sync with the rest of Jackman’s show, which revisits highlights from his musical career, including numbers from Les Misérables, The Music Man, The Greatest Showman, and The Boy From Oz.
Jackman’s Broadway Run & Buzzing Romance
Jackman kicked off his 12-show run in January and will continue select weekend performances through August 15–16, giving him plenty of room to juggle Hollywood projects — and a new romance.
Offstage, Jackman has been making headlines for his budding relationship with actress Sutton Foster, 50, his Music Man co-star. The pair reportedly grew close following Jackman’s 2023 separation from longtime wife Deborra-Lee Furness after 27 years of marriage.
While insiders say there was no overlap between relationships, sources close to Deborra-Lee claim she suspected an emotional affair, and feels betrayed. Now, the former couple is said to be struggling to divide Jackman’s estimated $200 million fortune, especially with no prenup in place.
Meanwhile, Foster finalized her divorce from screenwriter Ted Griffin in late 2024, and continues to co-parent their 7-year-old daughter, Emily.
