Nollywood actress and comedian Chioma Omeruah, popularly known as Chigul, has opened up about the emotional abuse she endured as a student and how it affected her self-esteem.
During an interview on With Chude, Chigul recounted her experience, revealing that a man in her school constantly bullied her with demeaning remarks, making her feel worthless and inadequate.
“He Called Me Ugly and a Failure” – Chigul
In her words:
“When I was in secondary school, I was one of the shorter girls, and I had that little child syndrome. There were some smaller girls who were cute, and the big girls amongst us loved them and pampered them. I was made to sing for a girl every night so that she could sleep.”
She also described how a particular man repeatedly insulted her, comparing her unfavorably to her family members.
“A man would see me and always tell me that I’m so ugly, terrible, foolish, and dumb. He said he knew my brother as a good guy and my father as a gallant Air Force officer but that I was a failure and would always repeat the class.”
Overcoming the Past
Chigul’s story has resonated with many, especially those who have faced bullying and low self-esteem during their school years. Despite the painful memories, she has grown into one of Nigeria’s most beloved comedians and actresses, proving that past struggles do not define the future.
