For five thrilling seasons, IK Osakioduwa has been the vibrant face of Nigerian Idol, steering contestants and viewers through unforgettable moments. But behind the glitz and glamour of the big stage, the ace broadcaster has been quietly laying bricks — literally.

In an exclusive chat with ENT360News, IK opens up about his bold new chapter as he officially becomes a media mogul with the launch of Light Radio 95.5 FM, his very own radio station in Lagos. And no, he didn’t just rent space — he built it from scratch!

From Idol Host to Visionary Entrepreneur

When asked about the highlights of his Nigerian Idol journey, IK couldn’t pick just one. “It’s like watching people step into The Matrix,” he joked. “You see them come in unsure, but then they start to believe and you witness that transformation.”

Over the years, Nigerian Idol has not only grown technically, but it has also become more inclusive, thanks to virtual auditions and continuous investment in contestants even after the show ends. “In reality, we have many winners,” IK said, “Not just the one person who takes the crown.”

Despite hosting the show for five years, IK revealed he never gets bored. “Each year is new. New faces. New energy. I reinvent myself every season.”

Why IK is Betting Big on Radio

While many believe radio is fading out, IK is convinced otherwise. “Radio is still Nigeria’s number one media platform, especially outside Lagos,” he noted. “Even in places like the US and UK, radio thrives alongside social media.”

But IK isn’t just launching another FM station. His Light Radio 95.5FM merges traditional radio with a modern podcast-driven model. Presenters are not just employees — they are creators, signed as talents with a mandate to produce fresh, on-demand content for radio, social media, and podcast platforms.

A Businessman with Experience

IK is not your typical entertainer-turned-entrepreneur. With over 18 years of media management experience at Silverbird and a background in advertising (yes, he actually sat for ARCON exams), he brings serious business knowledge to the table.

“I didn’t borrow money to start,” he emphasized. “I invested my own funds because I believe in this. Light Radio isn’t just a passion project, it’s a platform for the next generation of media stars.”

No Gatekeeping Allowed

Unlike the ‘old guards’ who closed doors, IK is opening them. Through his CSR initiative, IK Talks, he mentors young presenters and is determined to make Light Radio a launchpad for fresh talents.

“I’m not scared of being replaced. I want to help raise the next IKs,” he said. “There’s room for more stars in this industry.”

IK’s Recipe for Success

In one sentence, IK summed up what it takes to make it:

“Hunger, determination, and resilience. That’s the secret.”
