$10.6M Trouble: Kodak Black Dragged to Court Over 2022 Super Bowl Shooting Drama

Rapper Kodak Black is facing a new legal storm after a wild night in West Hollywood turned into a $10.6 million lawsuit. Two men, Mark Schaefer and Adam Rahman, claim the “Super Gremlin” hitmaker sparked a violent altercation outside a star-studded Super Bowl after-party in 2022 — a fight that ended with gunfire and four people injured, including Kodak himself.

The chaos unfolded in the early hours of February 12, 2022, outside The Nice Guy restaurant following a private Justin Bieber concert. Witnesses say a street brawl broke out around 2:45 a.m., quickly escalating when bullets started flying. Among the injured was Kodak, then 24, who took a bullet to the leg. Despite the injuries, the shooter remains unidentified, and no arrests have been made.

Fast-forward to February 2023, and Schaefer and Rahman filed a lawsuit against Kodak, accusing him of being the “catalyst” for the fight that triggered the shooting. They’re demanding $10.6 million in damages for negligence, assault, battery, and emotional distress. Initially, Justin Bieber and the venue were also targeted in the lawsuit, but those claims were dismissed.

Kodak’s lawyer, Bradford Cohen, isn’t having it. He says Kodak was a victim, not the instigator, and even tried to help before diving for cover when shots rang out. Calling the lawsuit a “cash grab,” Cohen argues his client wasn’t properly served — claiming legal papers were sent to an old address tied to Kodak’s mother.

The legal back-and-forth has been messy. Judges have twice rejected the plaintiffs’ push for a default judgment, citing lack of proof for the damages claimed. They’ve now been given another shot to present their case, while Kodak’s team gears up to fight back.

For now, the big question remains — should Kodak Black, who was also bleeding on the pavement that night, be on the hook for millions over a shooting that’s still unsolved?
