The animal metropolis has officially crowned a new king of the box office as the Zootopia 2 Disney Animation record reaches a staggering $1.46 billion globally. On January 1, 2026, Disney confirmed that the highly anticipated sequel has officially surpassed Frozen 2 ($1.45 billion) to become the highest-grossing film ever produced solely by Walt Disney Animation Studios.
The road to the Zootopia 2 Disney Animation record was a lightning-fast sprint. The film crossed the $1 billion mark in just 17 days, setting a new speed record for any PG-rated movie in history. While the film performed strongly in North America with $333 million, its historic run was fueled by an unprecedented international reception. China, in particular, became a primary engine for the film’s success, contributing over $560 million the highest total for any non-Chinese animated film in that territory.
Returning stars Ginnifer Goodwin (Judy Hopps) and Jason Bateman (Nick Wilde) have much to celebrate as their “buddy-cop” dynamic continues to resonate worldwide. While Pixar’s Inside Out 2 ($1.69 billion) and China’s Ne Zha 2 ($2.2 billion) still hold higher spots on the overall animation charts, Zootopia 2 stands alone as the pinnacle of Walt Disney Animation’s internal success. Industry analysts expect the film to widen its lead throughout January as it remains the dominant family choice in theaters.
