Keanu Reeves doesn’t deliberately watch his own films but admits he’ll stop scrolling if certain classics randomly appear on television. The sixty-one-year-old actor revealed during The New Yorker Festival on October 26 that he only catches his work when stumbling upon it accidentally. When asked if Keanu Reeves watches own movies intentionally, he explained he might think oh yes Point Break is on while channel surfing, referencing his 1991 action thriller where he played an undercover FBI agent infiltrating surfers.

The Matrix franchise also makes the cut when Keanu Reeves watches own movies during random scrolling sessions. He admitted with a laugh that he’d definitely stop for The Matrix Reloaded saying the words with genuine enthusiasm. The actor clarified he hasn’t deliberately put one of his films on to watch from start to finish. His Waiting for Godot Broadway costar Alex Winter shared similar sentiments explaining he feels almost complete disconnection when viewing his past performances and doesn’t get analytical responses.

Winter joined the discussion at The New Yorker Festival alongside culture critic Naomi Fry where both actors opened up about their relationship with watching themselves onscreen. The sixty-year-old actor said he doesn’t like watching himself much and rarely views completed projects. He recalled watching his last film only because he wanted to see the audience response at an incredible theater in Toronto. The pair first collaborated thirty-five years ago on Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure before reuniting for their current Broadway production.

The conversation about whether Keanu Reeves watches own movies revealed his approach differs from many Hollywood stars who either obsessively watch their work or completely avoid it. The John Wick star has previously mentioned he enjoys watching old films like photo albums to remember production experiences and the people he worked with. He finds that sufficient time between performing and viewing allows him to appreciate the final product saying sometimes you can go oh yeah that movie was pretty good with a fresh perspective.
