In a devastating tragedy that has shaken the Latin music community, Mexican rock musician Jonathan Meléndez keyboardist for the popular indie synthpop band Camilo Séptimo was shot and killed alongside members of his family inside an upscale residence outside Mexico City.

Local authorities reported that the horrifying incident took place inside the family’s penthouse, where 35-year-old Meléndez, his 35-year-old wife Ana Paula—who was four months pregnant—and their 3-year-old daughter were fatally shot. The family’s 21-year-old domestic worker and their pet dog were also killed in the attack. Remarkably, the couple’s 6-year-old son was discovered unharmed at the scene.

Investigation Underway: The Attorney General’s office confirmed that three of the victims suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head, and multiple victims were found bound.

Two Suspects Apprehended: Police have already arrested two male suspects in connection with the murders. Prosecutors believe one of the suspects leveraged a prior acquaintance with the family to gain entry into the gated residence.

Following the news, Camilo Séptimo released an emotional tribute honoring Meléndez, fondly known to fans as “Honas.” “We will always remember Honas with immense love and gratitude,” the band shared on Instagram. “Today we honor and celebrate his life, his music, his light, and the time shared with those of us fortunate enough to know him.”
