The controversy erupted after social media users pointed out deeply troubling visual implications in the campaign’s composition.
The Staged Elements: The photograph featured Karina wearing an oversized white skirt while holding a pair of sneakers, with background lighting from Converse’s star-shaped design casting a sharp white silhouette.
Offensive Comparisons: Viewers quickly took to platforms like TikTok, X, and Threads to point out that the pointed white lighting resembled a Ku Klux Klan hood, while the dangling sneakers next to her drew immediate comparisons to historical imagery of a lynching.
