The Africa film industry AFFF 2025 summit has once again brought industry leaders, investors, and creatives together this time to focus on unlocking the continent’s estimated $20 billion film industry potential. With Nollywood, Afrofuturism, and global demand on the rise, stakeholders are looking for ways to scale Africa’s storytelling power into sustainable business.

Africa is home to some of the fastest-growing film markets in the world, with Nollywood already ranking as one of the most prolific film industries by volume. Yet despite the creativity, Africa’s film industry still captures only a fraction of its true value. Piracy, lack of infrastructure, and limited global distribution remain key challenges.

At the Africa Film Festival and Forum (AFFF 2025), stakeholders including producers, government representatives, and international investors discussed strategies to unlock the continent’s film economy. Panels emphasized:

Building stronger distribution networks to reach African and global audiences. Establishing financing frameworks that support independent filmmakers. Encouraging public-private partnerships for film infrastructure. Showcasing African stories that appeal to global streaming platforms.

One industry leader at AFFF highlighted: “Africa’s stories are universal, but to monetize them effectively, we need the right structures. This is our moment to elevate African cinema.”

Another speaker stressed that film can also serve as a soft power tool, boosting tourism, cultural identity, and Africa’s place in the global creative economy.

Streaming giants like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Showmax have already invested in African content, signaling a growing global appetite. With the right policies and investments, Africa could transform from being an emerging market to a global leader in film.

Unlocking even a fraction of the $20B opportunity would not only uplift filmmakers but also create jobs, attract tourism, and strengthen Africa’s cultural exports worldwide.
