Nollywood heavyweight Chioma Akpotha isn’t holding back as she takes Netflix to task for what she calls a premature release of the official trailer for Femi Adebayo’s much-anticipated movie, Seven Doors. Fans had been eagerly following Adebayo’s strategic buildup of teasers, only for the streaming giant to break the suspense with a full-blown trailer drop ahead of schedule.
Netflix announced the trailer on their Instagram page, captioning it: “All hail the king. SEVEN DOORSwill open December 13. Only on NETFLIX.”
Akpotha took to the comments to voice her frustration, writing:
“@naijaonnetflix Guys, like WTH! Do you not know what timing is? 😡 @femiadebayosalami had set the ball rolling by dropping teasers! People were already anticipating, only for it to be messed up by the full trailer release here… JUST LIKE THAT?! Do you not know what being strategic is? Kai.”
Fans and fellow celebrities backed Akpotha’s stance, with one commenting, “Netflix didn’t even chill for Femi to open the fifth door on his page.” Another quipped, “At least una for align with the producer’s promotion tactics na.”
Despite the hiccup, the excitement around Seven Doors remains sky-high. The cultural epic, described as Adebayo’s biggest project yet, is set to transport audiences back to the 18th and 19th centuries, weaving together Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa traditions in a story that’s both historical and magical.
With a stellar cast including Akpotha, Femi Adebayo, Yinka Quadri, and Wumi Toriola, Seven Doors is poised to be a game-changer for Nollywood. Fans are counting down to its exclusive Netflix debut on December 13, with or without the premature trailer drop.
As for Akpotha’s fiery reaction? It’s just more proof that Nollywood takes its craft—and its strategy—very seriously. Bring on December 13!
