Mavin Records, the prominent Nigerian record label founded by Don Jazzy, has officially stepped into the world of filmmaking with the release of its debut short film, Chapter EX. The film premiered on YouTube on Wednesday, with the label promoting it on social media, inviting fans to “enjoy” this new creative endeavor.
Directed by Daniel David, Chapter EX unfolds the story of Eve, who believes she has found true love with Chijioke, only for their evening together to be disrupted by Chijioke’s bitter ex. The 11-minute film stars Tomi Ojo, Deji Osikoya, and Amarachi Audu, who bring the drama to life with standout performances.
Founded in 2012, Mavin Records has been a major force in Afrobeats, launching the careers of celebrated artists like Ayra Starr, Johnny Drille, Crayon, Rema, and Ladipoe. The label’s influence has earned it awards such as the MTV Africa Music Award for Best Record Label in both 2013 and 2014. Earlier this year, Universal Music Group acquired a majority stake in Mavin, citing it as a “driving force” for African talent. Additionally, Don Jazzy recently appointed Tega Oghenejobo as Mavin’s COO and president, further solidifying the label’s leadership in both music and now film.
