In a surprising move, the Paraguayan Football Federation (APF) has announced a ban on Lionel Messi jerseys for fans attending the upcoming World Cup qualifier between Paraguay and Argentina, scheduled for Friday, November 15. The ban, aimed at minimizing potential conflicts, extends to Messi jerseys from any of his clubs, including Argentina, Barcelona, and Inter Miami.

Fernando Villasboa, APF’s licensing director, confirmed the policy on Radio La Red, stating that fans outside the visitors’ section will be prohibited from wearing jerseys associated with Messi or any other international players. This includes jerseys from Argentine clubs or clubs featuring foreign players.

Anyone entering the stadium (outside the visitors’ section) will not be allowed to wear jerseys of the Argentine national team, Argentine clubs, or any clubs featuring players from other countries

Villasboa said.

This unprecedented decision sets the tone for what is anticipated to be a fierce South American showdown, with both teams vying for critical World Cup points.
