Popular Nigerian singer, Simi, has shared important advice for parents on how to raise their daughters. In a video posted on her Instagram page, the singer encouraged parents to teach their girls the importance of financial independence and self-reliance.
Simi expressed disapproval of the common mindset where some parents hope for their daughters to marry wealthy men as a way to secure their futures. She emphasized the need to empower young girls to take charge of their own lives and not depend on anyone for support.
“Parents, raise your daughters to be self-sufficient, not to think that their future depends on someone taking care of them. There’s security in being independent. A woman’s economic power comes from being able to fend for herself and recognizing that she is complete on her own. Let them know that they stand strong,” Simi advised.
