Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has called on the player who will replace William Saliba in the starting lineup to step up, as the Gunners prepare to face Liverpool in the Premier League next weekend.
Saliba will miss the match after receiving a red card in Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium last weekend. The French defender was sent off following a VAR review, which upgraded his yellow card to a red for a challenge on Evanilson.
Speaking about Saliba’s absence, Partey acknowledged the impact of the defender but expressed confidence in the team’s depth, saying:
He’s a massive player who we are going to miss, and somebody has to step up.
Partey added:
We have good defenders, and the coach knows what he is going to do to help the team. Any player who is there has to step in and try to give their best.
Before the crucial Premier League clash against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal will face Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday.
