Former Netherlands striker, Ruud van Nistelrooy, has emerged as the leading candidate to become the next Manchester United manager, according to bookmakers.
Initially, ex-England manager Gareth Southgate was tipped for the role after stepping down in July, but Van Nistelrooy, currently United’s assistant manager, has overtaken him with odds of 2/1. Reports suggest that Van Nistelrooy is “waiting to take over” from Erik ten Hag, whose position is increasingly precarious following a 3-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
Southgate is now the second-favorite at 5/2, while former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is third at 6/1. Ten Hag is reportedly on thin ice, with crucial games against FC Porto and Aston Villa set to determine his future at Old Trafford.
