Former Manchester United striker Anthony Martial, currently without a club after his contract with United ended last season, has reportedly received a significant contract offer from Greek side AEK Athens.
According to Greek outlet SPORT24, AEK Athens have made a substantial approach to Martial in the past week, offering him the most lucrative contract in the club’s history to entice him to sign. This offer is reported to surpass the earnings of the club’s highest-paid player, former Tottenham star Erik Lamela, who is on a contract worth approximately €2 million (£1.7 million) per year.
Despite the impressive financial offer, Martial would still face a considerable pay cut compared to his previous salary of £250,000 per week at Manchester United.
The move to AEK Athens is said to be separate from the Greek side’s ongoing interest in Chelsea forward David Datro Fofana. Martial is reportedly hesitant about making the switch to the Greek Super League at this stage of his career.
