Academy Award-nominated actress Florence Pugh has taken to social media to voice her fierce outrage following shocking allegations coming out of an Ivy League campus. Pugh addressed the high-profile lawsuit filed against members of a Cornell University fraternity, calling out institutional failures and demanding greater accountability from men.
The controversy stems from a lawsuit filed by a former student alleging she was drugged and assaulted by seven members of the Chi Phi fraternity. Sharing her raw thoughts online, Pugh didn’t hold back her emotions regarding the case.
Feeling “Uneasy and Sick”: Addressing the grim details of the case, Pugh wrote in her statement, “After reading about the young woman who was gang raped at her college by her friend and school peers, I’m feeling uneasy and sick and anxious.”
Challenging Institutions and Men: Pugh argued that the situation is a human issue rather than just a women’s issue, calling on her male peers to actively speak out against sexual violence rather than stay silent.
Pugh’s bold critique also targeted how universities handle disciplinary actions for severe misconduct, pushing back against administrative leniency. Despite reporting that her initial social media post faced temporary visibility blocks, the actress has continued to spark vital international conversations about survivor advocacy, campus safety, and systemic protection of perpetrators.
