Nollywood has officially made global entertainment history. The highly anticipated crime thriller Black Market shattered the Guinness World Record for the largest audience gathered for a single-location movie screening, drawing an unprecedented crowd to the historic Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos.

The monumental event brought together a confirmed 51,000 qualifying viewers who stayed from the very beginning to the end of the film.

Surpassing Previous Records: The massive turnout successfully surpassed the previous benchmark of 43,624 viewers, which was set back in 2015 during a screening of the Filipino film Felix Manalo at the Philippine Arena.

Star-Studded Production: Directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and produced by a collaborative effort from Rixel Studios, Signet Ring Studios, and FilmOne Studios, the project showcased the immense collaborative power of modern Nigerian filmmaking.

An All-Star Cast: The film features a phenomenal ensemble cast including Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Omowunmi Dada, Scarlet Gomez, Susan Pwajok, Ibrahim Yekini (Itele), and Uzor Arukwe

Beyond the record-breaking numbers, Black Market is a gripping crime thriller that follows five market women caught in a high-stakes cross-border smuggling operation amid severe fuel scarcity and economic pressure. The tense plot escalates dramatically when the daughter of one of the women is kidnapped, forcing the group to risk everything for survival.

The premiere itself quickly transformed into a vibrant cultural festival. Long queues stretched toward the TBS roundabout as gates opened in the afternoon, leading into a star-studded red-carpet session, live music, interactive games, and massive public excitement. With official confirmation from adjudicators, Black Market has permanently elevated Nollywood’s profile on the international stage, proving that Nigerian stories can command historic, record-breaking audiences.
