Lil Durk’s father has spoken out ahead of his son’s high-profile murder-for-hire trial, which begins on August 20 in Los Angeles. The Chicago rapper is accused of orchestrating a plot to kill Quando Rondo in August 2022, a plan that resulted in the death of Rondo’s cousin.
Big Durk (real name Dontay Banks) took to social media on August 19 to address the upcoming trial. “That day is finally upon us. Tomorrow, we start trial. Tomorrow is the day we all been looking for,” he said. He asked fans for their continued support: “Continue to keep us in prayer. Continue to shower your love and your support on us. We need it at this time right here”. He also added that the trial is expected to last three to four weeks.
Big Durk’s words carry extra weight, as he has personal experience with the federal justice system, having spent 25 years behind bars himself. He has previously spoken about how that experience allows him to better help his son navigate the case, saying, “It hurts to know that he has to go through what I just went through”.
Lil Durk is facing up to life in prison without parole on charges including conspiracy and use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death. He has pleaded not guilty, and his legal team has previously called the allegations “false”.
