Alix Earle is getting candid about her mental health after taking a brief break from social media. The 25-year-old influencer returned to TikTok on July 26 to explain why she’d been quiet, revealing she suffered a panic attack after an influx of hate from internet trolls.
“I know I haven’t posted anything on here in the past few days,” Earle said in the video. “Honestly, I just sort of took some time for myself and tried to not be online as much because I was getting into not the best place”.
Earle shared that while she’s “always been really fine with reading commentary” about herself, recently “it’s felt more negative, or maybe I’m just reading more”. She explained how the constant scrutiny got to her: “Obviously it’s gonna get to you or make you overthink when you’re constantly reading about what you’re doing, the way you look, who you’re hanging out with, what you’re saying”.
“There was a point this week where I just broke,” she said. “I was literally doing my makeup in the mirror, and I just broke down in tears. And I was on the plane. I had a panic attack, like a real panic attack of like my heart’s racing, feel like I can’t breathe, I’m crying”.
Earle acknowledged the double standard she faces as a creator, people feel entitled to comment the “nastiest things” on her content, but if she responded in kind, she’d be labeled the “biggest bitch ever”. “I’m just trying to share my human experiences,” she explained, but it “shouldn’t result in like me hating myself”.
During her break, Earle spent time with friends in Miami, where she attended college, and opted not to post a vlog after “overthinking everything about myself”. She said she feels much better now and is committed to “staying protecting our peace,” though she’s still going to “bring you guys along for those who care”.
