Advocacy group Industry Blackout is demanding Spotify and Apple Music completely remove D4vd’s catalog after the singer was charged with the sexual abuse and murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas. The Celeste Rivas murder case has triggered swift consequences across the music industry, even as the artist awaits trial.
The Change.org petition accuses streaming giants of making a damaging choice by continuing to profit from his music. “Continuing to stream, promote, and profit from his catalog is a choice,” the petition reads. “It is not a neutral one.” The group argues that Celeste was drawn into D4vd’s orbit through his public persona, making platform complicity particularly harmful.
D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, was quietly dropped by Interscope Records last year before charges were filed, the label had already cut ties. Universal Music Group is now helping artists remove their collaborative tracks.
Former collaborators Kali Uchis, Holly Humberstone, Laufey, and Damiano David have all pulled their duets with D4vd from streaming platforms. YouTube has demonetized his account under its Creator Responsibility policy, citing harmful off-platform behavior. As of now, his solo music remains on Spotify and Apple Music.
Burke was arrested April 16 and charged with first-degree murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, and mutilation of human remains. Prosecutors allege he killed Celeste on April 23, 2025, then dismembered her body. Her remains were found in the trunk of his impounded Tesla months later.
He has pleaded not guilty and remains jailed without bail. Industry Blackout’s petition has drawn signatures from those demanding streaming services take a stand. Whether Spotify and Apple Music will follow YouTube’s lead remains unconfirmed.
