Kevin Federline Says He’s Happy Britney Spears Got Help on Her Own Terms

More than a decade after their divorce, Kevin Federline is speaking publicly about his ex-wife’s well-being. The former backup dancer and father of Spears’ two teenage sons told reporters through his attorney that he is “happy” to see Spears voluntarily checked into rehab following her DUI arrest last month.

The statement marks a rare public comment from Federline, who has largely stayed out of the spotlight since his marriage to the pop superstar ended in 2007. His lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, delivered the message on his behalf, emphasizing Federline’s relief that Spears sought treatment without external pressure.

Spears was arrested on suspicion of DUI on March 29 after officers observed her swerving and nearly hitting a curb in Thousand Oaks, California. She reportedly failed field sobriety tests and was booked before being released several hours later.

Rather than waiting for court-ordered consequences, the singer made the decision to enter a treatment facility on her own. Sources close to Spears confirmed she was not forced by a judge or family intervention. She chose to go.

Federline’s reaction reflects that distinction. “He is happy that she is getting help on her own terms,” Kaplan said . The phrasing is deliberate. For someone who spent 13 years under a court-ordered conservatorship that controlled her career, finances, and personal decisions, “on her own terms” carries enormous weight.

Spears’ legal battle to end her conservatorship became a global movement in 2021. She testified in open court that the arrangement was abusive, forced her to work against her will, and prevented her from marrying or having more children. A judge terminated the conservership that November.

Since then, Spears has been navigating life as a free woman for the first time in her adult life. That journey has included ups and downs, including the recent DUI arrest. But Federline’s team wants the public to know he is not judging. He is just relieved.

Federline and Spears share two sons: Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19. Both are now legally adults. Federline has maintained primary custody for much of their lives, though the arrangement shifted as the boys aged.

Kaplan did not specify whether the sons have been in contact with their mother during her treatment. But Federline’s statement suggests a unified front when it comes to Spears’ health and safety, regardless of past tensions.

Spears remains in treatment. No release date has been announced. The DUI case is still pending, and she will eventually have to answer to the charges. But for now, the focus is on recovery.

Federline has returned to his private life. He did not offer further comment or criticism. His message was brief, measured, and clear. He wants Spears to be well. And he is grateful she made that choice herself.
