The WNBA landscape shifted dramatically on Monday, April 6, 2026, as the Atlanta Dream acquired Angel Reese from the Chicago Sky. This high-stakes WNBA trade news marks the end of Reese’s tenure in Chicago and signals a massive “all-in” move for an Atlanta franchise coming off a historic 30–14 season. The deal officially brings one of the league’s most dominant frontcourt forces and biggest commercial stars to the Southeast.

The Details of the Blockbuster Deal

In exchange for the two-time All-Star, the Chicago Sky received a significant haul of future assets. The trade breakdown includes:

• To Atlanta: Forward Angel Reese and the right to swap second-round picks in 2028.

• To Chicago: Atlanta’s first-round draft picks in both 2027 and 2028.

Dream General Manager Dan Padover hailed the move, describing Reese as a “dynamic talent” and a “perfect fit” for the culture being built in Atlanta. For Chicago, the move appears to be a strategic pivot toward a long-term rebuild following a tumultuous 10–34 finish in 2025.

The trade follows a period of public friction between Reese and the Sky organization. In late 2025, Reese expressed frustrations regarding the team’s direction and roster construction. Despite her individual success averaging 14.1 points and a league-leading 12.9 rebounds per game the team struggled to find consistency on the court.

“I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to join the Atlanta Dream organization,” Reese stated in an official release. “I’m focused on continuing to grow my game, competing at the highest level, and giving everything I’ve got to the Dream.”

Impact on the Atlanta Dream Roster

Reese joins an already formidable lineup in Atlanta, featuring three-time All-Stars Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray. Her relentless rebounding and defensive versatility are expected to provide the interior toughness needed to propel the Dream past the first round of the playoffs.

• Elite Rebounding: Reese remains the only player in WNBA history to average at least 12 rebounds per game in a single season.

• Double-Double Machine: With 49 double-doubles in just two seasons, she provides a guaranteed nightly statistical impact.

• Star Power: The Dream will host five home games at State Farm Arena this season to accommodate the massive ticket demand expected from “Reese-mania.”

The Sky now holds a treasure trove of first-round assets for the next three years. While losing a generational talent like Reese is a blow to the fan base, Sky GM Jeff Pagliocca emphasized that the trade was designed to achieve “roster balance.” The team will likely build around center Kamilla Cardoso and their newly acquired draft capital as they look to redefine their identity for the 2027 season and beyond.
