The Ayesha Curry Steph comments clarification arrived this week on Michelle Obama’s “IMO” podcast, where the cookbook author and her NBA superstar husband sat down to address a rumor that has followed them for years.

“I feel like this is something that gets misconstrued publicly,” Ayesha, 37, told Obama and her brother Craig Robinson. Turning directly to Steph, she added, “It’s not that you didn’t have game. I was 14 years old. I was not allowed to talk to boys!”

The confusion stems from an old interview where Ayesha mentioned having a “no athletes” rule as a teenager. She now admits the statement came from a very different place. “I had very textbook misconceptions, the jock stereotype,” she explained. As a self-described “theater nerd,” she was simply trying to “protect my peace”.

Calling her earlier phrasing “very disrespectful” and “rude,” Ayesha made one thing crystal clear: “Did I think you were cute? Absolutely”.

The truth, she revealed, was never about lacking interest in Steph. It was about doubting he could ever want her back. “People think I’ve said he wasn’t my type, but what I was saying was I didn’t think I was his type,” Ayesha explained . “This was Mr. Cool, so I kind of sold myself short thinking there’s no way, he must just like me as a friend”.

Steph, now 38, recalled how he kept showing up anyway, spending two weeks straight at her house playing video games with her brothers. “Those were the days,” he smiled.

The couple married in 2011 and now share four children: Riley, 13, Ryan, 10, Canon, 7, and Caius, 22 months. Ayesha ended the conversation with a laugh, telling her husband she’s “glad I didn’t get friend-zoned”.
