Jason Momoa is staging a full-scale takeover of 2026. Following a monumental 2025 that saw the release of A Minecraft Movie, which grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide, and the critically acclaimed Apple TV+ historical epic Chief of War, the actor is poised to dominate screens this year with three major projects spanning blockbuster franchises and streaming originals.

The actor’s 2026 slate kicks off with his highly anticipated DC Universe debut. Momoa will appear as the fan-favorite alien bounty hunter Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, scheduled for release on June 26, 2026. Director James Gunn has confirmed that Momoa’s character is not merely a cameo but serves as a crucial narrative device. “The comic is very much a bunch of little stories. We needed to create one throughline, one three-act story, so Lobo helps us to do that,” Gunn explained. This marks a significant shift for Momoa, who famously played Aquaman in the previous DC franchise.

Momoa will also return to the desert planet of Arrakis in December. He is set to reprise his role as Duncan Idaho in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three, which is slated for a December 2026 release. While plot details remain under wraps, the film is expected to adapt Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah, promising a darker and more complex chapter for the franchise. Momoa joins an ensemble cast that includes Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Anya Taylor-Joy.

Between these two blockbuster tentpoles, Momoa is staying busy with a passion project close to his heart. He is currently filming Project Jared, an action comedy for Netflix directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) . Production is underway in Oahu, Hawaii, continuing Momoa’s trend of shooting in his home state following The Wrecking Crew and Chief of War .

The film is described as a “two-hander” action comedy, pairing Momoa with comedic talent Andy Samberg (Palm Springs). They are joined by Jai Courtney and Aimee Carrero in what promises to be a unique blend of high-octane action and humor . Momoa’s production company, On the Roam, is producing alongside Samberg’s Party Over Here banner.

With a legacy-defining villain role in Supergirl, a return to a prestige sci-fi saga in Dune, and a star-driven comedy in Hawaii, Jason Momoa is proving that 2026 is the year he commands the screen on his own terms.
