Carrie Anne Fleming, the Canadian actress beloved for her roles in Supernatural and iZombie, has died at the age of 51. The actress passed away on February 26 in Sidney, British Columbia, following complications from breast cancer. Her death was confirmed on March 22 by her representative and by her Supernatural co-star Jim Beaver, who shared an emotional tribute to the woman he called his “soulmate”.

Born on August 16, 1974, in Digby, Nova Scotia, Fleming moved to British Columbia to pursue her passion for the performing arts. She trained in drama at Victoria’s Kaleidoscope Theatre and the Kidco Theatre Dance Company before breaking into the entertainment industry with small roles, including an uncredited appearance in Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore and a recurring part in the action series Viper.

Fleming’s career took a defining turn in 2005 when legendary Italian director Dario Argento cast her in Masters of Horror. In the episode titled “Jenifer,” she played a haunting, disfigured woman with cannibalistic tendencies, a role that cemented her place in the horror genre. She went on to appear in a string of cult favorites, including The Tooth Fairy and Bloodsuckers, building a reputation as a steady presence in genre television.

But it was her role as Karen Singer, the devoted wife of Bobby Singer on Supernatural, that endeared her to fans worldwide. She appeared across seasons 5 and 7 of the long-running CW series, bringing emotional depth to the character who represented one of the few tender connections in Bobby’s hard-lived life. More recently, she spent five seasons on iZombie as Candy Baker, introducing her work to a new generation of genre fans.

Beyond her horror credentials, Fleming’s television résumé spanned decades, with appearances in SupergirlUnREALContinuumThe 4400The L WordSmallvilleThe Dead Zone, and *Stargate SG-1*. She was also a dedicated stage actress, performing in productions of Noises OffRomeo and JulietSteel Magnolias, and Fame.

Jim Beaver, who played her on-screen husband Bobby Singer, shared a deeply personal tribute to Fleming on Facebook shortly after her death. In the post, he revealed that their connection extended far beyond the screen.

“Carrie Anne Fleming was cast as my wife on Supernatural in my fifth season on the show. I fell for her hard, and I did it mere seconds after meeting her,” Beaver wrote. He recalled the moment they discovered their daughters shared the same name, Madeline Rose, calling it the beginning of “a beautiful friendship”.

Beaver, 75, described Fleming as “a powerhouse of vitality and goodwill and amazingly good nature, with a rapturous laugh and an utterly adorable personality that didn’t seem to have an off switch”. He also revealed that the two were romantically involved over the years, though geography and life circumstances kept them apart.

“I lost Cecily to cancer in 2004. Thursday, I lost Carrie to the same disease,” Beaver wrote. “I never thought my heart could break so badly more than once. But it has. But, oh, the two torches I carry, what bright, bright light they shed”.

Fleming’s representative confirmed that she passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side . She is survived by her daughter, Madalyn Rose, who was named for the connection that first sparked her mother’s friendship with Beaver. A memorial service is expected to be announced at a later date.

In a statement, Fleming’s rep called her “a beautiful soul, inspiring, and above all, kind” . For fans who grew up watching her bring depth to genre television, she was all that and more, a familiar face who made the supernatural feel human.
