A viral story claiming justice has been served in a high-profile celebrity case is itself now facing scrutiny. Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy of the defunct duo P-Square, has forcefully debunked reports that the woman who accused him of rape has been sentenced to seven years in prison. The singer took to social media on March 4 to set the record straight, calling the circulating narrative “very fake news”.

The Rudeboy false rape accusation news began spreading rapidly across X (formerly Twitter) and Nigerian blogs on Thursday, claiming that Victoria Ayomide Agboola, also known as @chubbiedivah, had been convicted and jailed for her September 2025 allegations against the singer. Some posts even included a purported screenshot of Rudeboy gloating about the sentence with the caption: “If you price you must pay, the next time you’ll see the sunlight is in 2032”.

Rudeboy responded swiftly to quash the rumors. In a post on his verified X account, the singer wrote simply but emphatically: “This is fake!!! Very fake news…”  He later shared on his Instagram Stories that the reports claiming a six-year sentence were also “fake news”.

The denial comes as the viral story had gained significant traction, with many social media users celebrating what they believed was a concluded legal case against Agboola. One user, @DrMarife, expressed disappointment at Rudeboy’s clarification, posting: “You just spoiled my mood with this your post. I was already ordering goat head pepper soup to celebrate this epic win before this news struck”.

The controversy traces back to September 2025, when Agboola posted serious allegations against Rudeboy on X. The trouble began when comments under a birthday post for Rudeboy’s wife, Ivy Ifeoma, escalated. An X-user mentioned old divorce rumors involving Rudeboy and his ex-wife Anita Okoye, alleging infidelity with their housemaid.

Agboola then amplified the claims, alleging that Rudeboy raped or coerced the maid and sent his wife and sister-in-law out of the house after being caught. The posts went viral, drawing widespread attention and support from some celebrities concerned about online defamation.

Rudeboy did not take the allegations lightly. He threatened legal action immediately, vowing to make an example of the accuser. “If you like go private, leave X!! I will find you; I will use every necessary means, power, resources and money!!! You will face the law; I will use you to set an example!! (scapegoat)… your only way out is to leave the surface of this earth and relocate to space,” he posted at the time.

The threats were not empty. Agboola reportedly deleted her posts and traveled to Ghana but was arrested upon her return to Nigeria in November 2025. She was arraigned in court on charges of defamation and false publication. At one point, she was reportedly granted temporary release to seek medical attention but failed to appear for subsequent court proceedings.

Despite the legal actions taken, no trial has concluded, and no sentence has been handed down. Rudeboy’s recent denial makes clear that reports of a seven-year or six-year prison term are entirely premature and inaccurate.

The singer’s clarification has sparked mixed reactions online. While some fans appreciate the honesty, others were clearly enjoying the fantasy of a concluded case. User @jerrymejh joked: “You’re telling me this isn’t real? I was already halfway through drafting the screenplay for the 2032 Awakening. Why must you kill the vibe with ‘facts’ and ‘truth’?”.

The legal case against Agboola remains pending. Rudeboy has shown no indication of dropping the matter, having previously vowed to pursue it to its conclusion. For now, the only certainty is that the viral reports of a completed prison sentence are fiction, welcome fiction to some, but fiction, nonetheless.
