Norwich Castle Keep has reopened to the public following a five-year, $37 million renovation that opened all five floors for the first time.

The 12th-century castle was commissioned by William the Conqueror, built with Caen limestone imported from Normandy as a show of Norman dominance.

The British Museum loaned more than 900 Norman artifacts to create the castle’s first medieval gallery outside London.

The reopening comes as East Anglia was named by Lonely Planet as one of 2025’s top travel destinations.
