Lucy Pargeter has spent over two decades playing Chas Dingle in Emmerdale, and she still gets a thrill from every single day on set. For her, the nerves aren’t a problem — they’re the fuel. “The day I don’t feel any nerves is when I know this is not the right place for me to be,” she told Inside Soap. “That’s what I feed off.”
Even pouring pints at the Woolpack comes with its own kind of choreography, from pulling the right lines to keeping the action flowing. Lucy loves that Chas works in the iconic pub because it means she gets to see almost every character in the village. “You get to catch up and have a nice little gossip!” she joked.
This year has been packed with drama for the soap, including February’s jaw-dropping limo crash that killed off Suzy Merton, Leyla Harding and Amy Barton. Filming the icy sequence — which was actually made from melted wax — left Lucy tricked into walking like she might slip at any second. “It was so cold, and shooting through the night meant lunch breaks at three in the morning,” she recalled.
While Chas has mellowed over the years, Lucy wouldn’t mind bringing back a bit of her character’s old fire — by swapping bodies with her half-brother Cain Dingle for a day. “Cain is still a bad boy,” she said. “I’d like to be him for the day just so I could be a bit old-school Dingle again!”
Sounds like whether it’s nerves, pub gossip, or imagining life as Cain, Lucy Pargeter has no plans to slow down in Emmerdale.
