Strictly Come Dancing star Dianne Buswell has revealed she’s more than ready to step away from the spotlight temporarily if it means starting a family with boyfriend Joe Sugg. The 36-year-old professional dancer and the 33-year-old YouTuber met back in 2018 when they were paired up on the hit BBC One show—and their on-screen chemistry turned into real-life romance after the series ended.

Speaking in the September issue of Prima magazine, Dianne shared that having children is something they’ve both always wanted. It’s just a matter of timing. “We’ve always wanted kids, it’s just finding the right time,” she said. “I don’t feel worried about taking time out from dancing. I just don’t see the point in worrying. When everything aligns, it will happen.”

Dianne described Joe as someone she clicked with immediately, noting his sense of humor and creativity as things that drew her in. Now, several years into their relationship, she admits they’ve learned to deal with life in the public eye—even if it sometimes tests their need for privacy. “Sometimes people are obsessed with finding out where we live, so it can be hard in terms of privacy,” she said. Still, she added that they often forget their own fame, joking, “We’ll be like, ‘Why are they looking at us? Ah, OK, I remember.’”

Her perspective on Strictly has also evolved over time. Dianne won the 2024 season of the show with comedian Chris McCausland, who made history as the show’s first blind contestant. She credits that experience with shifting her focus from chasing the Glitterball Trophy to simply enjoying the journey. “I’ll be honest, I used to think of winning, winning, winning, but the past few years, it hasn’t been about that at all,” she admitted. “Maybe that comes with age and maturity.”

As the 2025 series approaches, Dianne says she’s just excited to be back—without the pressure. For now, she’s embracing her career, her love life, and the possibility of motherhood with calm optimism. “I like to practise manifestation. I’m quite spiritual,” she added.

The full interview with Dianne Buswell appears in the September issue of Prima, on sale Wednesday, July 30.
