Selena Gomez is bringing a deeply personal touch to her latest Rare Beauty launch — Rare Eau de Parfum — not just in scent, but in design.
A Bottle Everyone Can Use
The 33-year-old singer, actress, and entrepreneur, who has long been open about her struggles with lupus, revealed that her dexterity challenges played a key role in the fragrance bottle’s design.
“I have dexterity problems from my lupus,” Selena told WWD. “Sometimes it’s hard for me to open a bottle of water or do anything.”
Determined to make the perfume accessible, she collaborated with Casa Colina rehabilitation experts, engineers, and certified hand therapists to ensure the bottle could be used by people with limited hand strength or mobility.
“I’ve had to use a spray and, like, put both my fingers on it,” she added. “It’s not as sad as it sounds. I’m alive, and that’s all that matters.”
Sneaky Scent Tests and Special Memories
Selena quietly tested her signature scent in everyday moments — sometimes even without people knowing.
“Sometimes I would accidentally — or purposefully — get close to people and see if they could smell anything,” she laughed. “I would just flat out ask everyone I was around.”
The fragrance, launching next week, is deeply tied to some of Selena’s most joyful moments — including her engagement to music producer Benny Blanco, and her 32nd birthday.
“It made me feel like a piece of me. I was hoping that it would embody the place of life that I’m in,” she shared.
A Full-Circle Fragrance Moment
Though this is Rare Beauty’s first official fragrance, it’s not Selena’s first foray into scent.
Back in 2011, she released two perfumes through a partnership with Adrenalina Inc. — but she admits those early days feel like another lifetime.
“I was so young,” she reflected. “The sweetest thing — a few months ago, I saw someone had saved the box my first fragrance was in. I couldn’t help but laugh. I don’t even remember what it smells like. I don’t think it’s anything I’d wear now.”
More Than a Perfume
Rare Eau de Parfum is more than a beauty product for Selena — it’s a reflection of resilience, joy, and inclusivity.
“It was just something that made me feel like a piece of me,” she said. “And I wanted everyone to enjoy it.”
Selena Gomez continues to shape the beauty world not just with innovation, but with intention — proving yet again that Rare Beauty is more than just skin deep.
